Republic National Distributing Company (RNDC), the second largest liquor distributor in the U.S., needed help communicating to their 9,000 employees in 26 states and 54 offices. Their previous communications attempts using old-school printed newsletters and internal memos failed. After a thorough SWOT analysis of RNDC, Bill discovered several issues affecting a large portion of employees. Three quarters of RNDC’s associates were comprised of a non-desk workforce: warehouse workers, deliver drivers and their sales force. And the majority of these non-desk workers did not have a company email address. Bill developed a digital communications plan that included the company’s first Intranet, video break room boards, a mobile app and the use of social media to engage and communicate with the RNDC workforce. Bill also helped to create and post weekly digital content. The content could be instantly accessed by RNDC associates via their cellphones, tablets and computers. The program succeeded in eliminating all communications barriers with the non-desk associates and engaged the entire workforce. The company-wide changes resulted in higher productivity, less turnover, less absenteeism, fewer mistakes, fewer safety incidents and, above all, more trust in company leadership.
